Dance & movement class
(These classes are recommended for – Beginning – Intermediate – Advanced)
MBAA’s FireHouse Community Arts Academy Dance & Movement Department taught by academically and professionally experienced dancers, offers many classes for ages 3 to senior adults. Dance improves confidence, coordination, rhythm, posture and relaxation. It lets students explore the creative aspects of movement. All classes are suitable for boy or girls. Dance attire is required. Students perform in public, including a yearly dance recital. Serious dance students are encouraged to take several classes a week. As students progress, instructors will assign them to sequential levels based on ability.
Baby Ballet/Tap 3 -4 yrs
Focuses on imagination, body awareness and motor skill development using ballet and tap positionspositions
Pre-Ballet/Tap/Jazz 5 – 6 yrs
A first exposure to classical ballet. Basic ballet terminology and steps added together with combinations. Tap will continue to enhance footwork and rhythm. Classes will emphasize exercise, alignment, coordination, improvisation and proper terminology.
Beginning Ballet/Jazz/Ta[ 7 yrs and up
Students will enjoy the creative movement exercises that strengthen ballet skills, improve coordination, enhance group socialization skills and most of all, empower the imagination with dance! Barre technique, ballet combinations, easy-to-follow movement exercises and age appropriate dance progressions help children improve body awareness and gain the musicality they need to match movement to music. This class will introduce basic ballet concepts through creative play, bare work, and traveling across the floor. Teen/Adult Ballet Classes utilize a body-conditioning warm-up combined with a classical ballet class to enhance posture; strengthen, tone and lengthen muscles; and increase flexibility. Students also will enhance coordination and freedom of movement.
Make music with your feet! Tap dance classes are a fun way forrpeople of all ages to develop their coordination, balance, rhythm and agility. This class teaches the fundamentals including tap rhythm steps, flaps, shuffles and shuffle combinations that are taught through progressive exercises that make learning easy and develop each person’s natural ability at their own pace.

Jazz Dance, Teen/Adult With a ballet basis, Jazz goes back to the roots of jazz dance, focusing on jazz movement style and rhythms evoked by jazz music. Students will concentrate on developing an awareness and sensitivity of the body, its movement potential and the space in which it dances. Classes will emphasize exercise, alignment, coordination, improvisation and terminology.
Hip-Hop, R & B / 7 – Adult
Jazz dance’s focus on alignment and coordination are combined with the latest music video and “street style” dance moves and combinations in this fast-passed, exciting class! Key is flexibility, elasticity of muscle body isolation, coordination of arts and legs. Showcase demonstrations will be mandatory. Traditional African Dance All Ages Fun, mixed-age, multi-level class will learn basic rhythms, movements and meaning of dance forms from the people of Africa.
Movers & Shakers: Gentle to Contemporary Movement, 40+
A fun-filled, gentle exercise and movement class geared to the needs of maturing adults offers gentle stretching and mobility exercises to improve strength and cardiovascular functioning
Learn the basics of Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha Cha, Rumba, Mambo and Swing. We will focus on the fun and gregarious aspects of social dancing as we introduce ourselves to some of the most popular social dances. Additionally, this class will offer a “Gender-Neutral” environment where all members of our community can feel welcome, comfortable, and relaxed. Social Dancing is a fantastic way to literally connect with old friends, new friends, spouses and partners. Come on in and let’s get dancing! *NO PARTNER REQUIRED
Zumba fuses hypnotic musical rhythms and tantalizing moves to create a dynamic workout system designed to be FUN and EASY TO DO! The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Add some Latin flavor and International zest into the mix and you’ve got ZUMBA!
